Israel Independence Day May 12, 2016
Israel Independence Day is observed this year beginning at sundown May 11 through May 12, 2016. We are reminded that God foretold of His restoration of Israel and re-establishing her as a nation after thousands of years – for the express purpose of reviving within His covenant people a passionate love for Him.
“Then say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Surely I will take the children of Israel from among the nations, wherever they have gone, and will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land; and I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel;” Ezekiel 37: 21-22a
As we recognize the Lord’s faithfulness in fulfilling his promises, let’s also continue agreeing together in prayer, and never lose sight of His far greater purpose: for it’s not only Israel’s independence that He seeks to establish, rather her true dependence on the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, that His people would receive and embrace the Messiah He’s so graciously sent them.
It is also critical to remember that along with commemorating God’s faithfulness to Israel, as followers of Jesus we must be mindful of the many difficulties and struggles experienced by others in the region. We take our example from Jesus, who taught in the Gospel of Matthew, Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22: 37-39.
The Joshua Fund is committed to blessing Israel and Her Neighbors in the name of Jesus, according to Genesis 12: 1-3. Please join us in praying that people in Israel would turn their hearts to the One who loves them and gave His life for them.
