An Eastern Approach

Israel Tour - Day 5

Saturday morning found the members of the Israel tour atop the Mount of Olives, gathering together for a time of worship, prayer, and teaching from God’s Word. Beginning in Matthew 24, Joel C. Rosenberg related the events leading up to Jesus’ death and the prophecies regarding His return to the city spread before them. The garden of Gethsemane, the Eastern Gate, the Temple Mount—these saw His death and resurrection; they shall see His second coming.

After overlooking Jerusalem from different vantage points outside the wall, tour members had their first opportunity to enter the Old City. Going in through the Damascus Gate, they experienced the nearly overwhelming collision of scents, sounds, colors, corridors that make up the Arab quarter. Several twists and turns later, the group exited the Jewish quarter through the Zion Gate. “Sing praises to the Lord, who dwells in Zion! Declare His deeds among the people.” –Psalm 9:11

Suggested Readings:

As I write this, it has been 32 hours since all the cell phones in Israel woke us up at 3 am with a very unusual message: We are in a State of Extreme National Emergency. Stay near a place of shelter. All gatherings, educational and work activities are cancelled until further notice. We were told to check that our bomb shelters were prepared and stocked with food and water.
