Jerusalem Day – Yom Yerushalayim

This year’s celebration of Jerusalem Day, on May 20th, marks the 45th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty during the Six-Day war in 1967. During the war, territories that had been annexed and held by Jordan for 19 years, including East Jerusalem, were liberated by Israeli forces. The Israeli national holiday is celebrated on the 28th day of the month of Iyar on the Jewish Calendar and commemorates the day on which the divided city of Jerusalem became one.

Jerusalem Day celebrations are held annually in cities throughout the world at Synagogues, Jewish schools, and centers. A Jerusalem Day parade is held in the city of Jerusalem and concludes at the Western Wall, which was not accessible to Jews while the Old City was under Jordanian control.

Psalm 122:2 Our feet are standing within your gates, O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that is built as a city that is compact together;

Psalm 147:2 The LORD builds up Jerusalem; He gathers the outcasts of Israel.
